Christian Education Committee Report
In 2011 the Christian Education Committee was responsible for seeking and supplying Sunday School teachers, choosing and ordering Christian Education materials, organizing Rally Day, Vacation Bible School, Gathering of the Greens, the Advent Event, the Christmas Pageant, Epiphany Stars, ordering and presenting personalized Bibles to 3rd graders, serving one of the Lenten Dinners and choosing and ordering devotional materials for Advent and Lent.
The theme for VBS, which was held in the evenings the week of June 12th, was “Shake It Up Café” with 37 kids involved and a host of volunteers doing stories, games, crafts and snacks.
Lynda Karger directed the Christmas Pageant, with help from the KWT leaders. The theme was “Touched By an Angel”. Practices were held during KWT on Wednesdays during November and December. The program was presented on December 11.
Kids Worshipping Together - KWT+ In 2011 it was decided that we would open KWT (which had previously only been 3rd, 4th and 5th graders) to a wider age group due to a small number of children in those grades. KWT helps during the Lenten season by setting the tables for our Wednesday night Lenten meals. When KWT started up again in October we expanded the group even further to younger children also. We have been working on "Heroes of the Bible", singing with Lynda Karger, Sharon Bond and Kerri Dyne for Youth Choir and with the addtion of Pastor Rebecca we have become a dynamic group of expressive children in our congregation(and with friends joining in also). Thank you to members of the congregation who have donated meals to help Leaders Glenda Buonanducci, Cris Mallory and Carrie Zook make this group possible. Our mission this year was to restart the Food Pantry collections which will continue through 2012.

Worship Committee Report
Committee members: Lynda Karger, Sharon Bond, Betsey Davis, Linda Harris, Leanna Schleicher, Rev. Rebecca Taylor, and Jody Larson.
2011 has been an exciting year for the Presbyterian Church of Kane. It began with a search already underway for a temporary supply pastor that resulted in Rev. Rebecca Taylor answering a call to ministry in Kane. On September 11, 2011 she conducted her first worship service in our church. Since that time we are pleased to report that not only worship attendance is up, but that the worship experience in this church is vibrant and Spirit filled. We welcome Rebecca to our church and community in the hope that God will be honored and glorified, and by the Spirit’s guidance, we might be led into the future together.
We are reminded that in our Book of Order it states that; “In Jesus Christ, the Church is a royal priesthood in which worship is the work of everyone. The people of God are called to participate in the common ministry of worship.”
In our church and in all other Presbyterian churches, the session is to provide for the worship and shall encourage the people to participate fully and regularly in it. Under the direction and guidance our pastor, the worship committee of the Presbyterian Church of Kane is charged with the responsibility of providing for and overseeing the proper and orderly worship that takes place in this church.
Many exciting possibilities are before us as we grow together as a congregation in worship. The committee has been meeting twice a month and sometimes in between to insure that the development of worship services and all related special services are conducted appropriately and with meaning.
Our music ministry has a proven history of continuity un-paralleled by many churches in our area. Music is a vital part of the worship experience and we are blessed to have gifts and talents that abound in this regard. The committee wishes to thank Lynda Karger, Betsey Davis and Sharon Bond for their combined efforts in leading this ministry. Also, the committee recognizes all those who faithfully participate as singers, bell ringers, and others who make a joyful noise to the glory of God in this church.
Again this year, the committee is grateful for all who lector and serve as elders and deacons in all the obvious and visible responsibilities, as well as those who work behind the scenes to enrich the worship ministry in this church.
Finally, to the congregation who faithfully attend worship we thank you. You have done your part, by listening, singing and praying. Together we are, “the church.”
Respectfully Submitted,
Jody Larson
Church Music Report
The music ministry of the church continues to provide quality inspirational music to the weekly Sunday Service and special services throughout the church year.
The Chancel Choir averaged 15 dedicated voices this past year. The dedication of this group is evident in their faithful attendance every Wednesday and Sunday, at times sacrificing personal time and travel to be available for Sunday morning services. I am forever grateful for each and everyone of them. Our numbers are growing this year and we now 21 when choir is full WOW!!!!!
The Youth Choir is back up and running and presented a very cute Christmas play this year. The addition of Rev. Rebecca has added a new dimension as we have learned songs with the guitar, and with Sharon Bond on the piano. Ask the children about when Sharon plays and they dance around the room…they LOVE it!!!!! A special thanks to Kerri Dyne, Carrie Zook, Cris Mallery and Glenda Buonanducci for their help and assistance.
Sharon Bond accompanies the Chancel Choir; I greatly appreciate her talent and the expertise that she brings to the music program. She has the knack for making us all look good.
I wish to thank all the people I have had the privilege to work with this past year, and look forward to a new year full of hope and with bright, new and innovated ideas to enhance worship.
In Song, Lynda
The Adult Handbell Choir
The Adult Handbell Choir continued to add their gifts to worship during Lent, Easter, Advent, Christmas and Sunday Worship throughout 2011, sometimes combining their skills with those of the Chancel Choir. Starting back up in September and generally ending in May, the Handbell Choir meets Tuesday evenings from 6:30 to 7:30. Our choir is blessed with the skills of players that have been with us for 15 plus years, along with the determination, willingness and skills of beginning players.
There’s always room for others to add their talents to this music ministry and fellowship, even those who wish only to substitute, or play for a few months. The choir generally plays once a month for Sunday Worship services, and during additional services. Anyone interested is welcome to come.
With Ringing, Betsey

Annual Report of the Deacons ~ 2011 |
|
|
The Deacons had yet another busy year serving the congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Kane and the community as well. |
|
When church members experienced a time of need the Deacons prepared and delivered meals and sent cards and/or calls of support. We also made a deliberate effort to mail cards of support or sympathy to non-congregational members of the community in order to remind them that we as a church are keeping them in our prayers. In the absence of a minister for most of the year, the Deacons were unable to serve communion to homebound members, however scheduling to resume doing so with Rev. Rebecca is already in the works for the year ahead. Our ministries of cards, calls, meals, and fellowship events have all continued this year. We have done all of these ministries in your name as we represent the entire church family. |
|
In June we held the coffee hour in honor of our only graduating high school senior, Josh Ishman. Also in June, we prepared and hosted the annual Pie & Ice Cream Social during Kane’s Alumni Weekend. We had a wonderful turnout of people, delicious pies, and entertainment was provided by the Guitar Choir. All of these things combined to make a hugely successful evening of fellowship. Proceeds from this event were used to purchase items needed for the women’s shelter in Bradford, with the remaining balance deposited to be used in the future as needs arise. |
|
We started the fall season with the Thankful Feast during which our church family came together to enjoy “apple-y” and “pumpkin-y” treats and one another’s company. Despite our efforts to obtain addresses of our college students in order to maintain correspondence with them, we did not receive ANY addresses. If you have the name and address of someone in college, please provide the information to the Deacons so that we can periodically send them letters to remind them that their church family continues to think of and care for them. |
|
Once again this Christmas season, we joined with McKean County Children and Youth Services to provide clothing and Christmas gifts for children under the care of the agency. The generosity of our congregation was overwhelming as gifts for these children poured in. Also in December we went caroling at Central Towers and the Lutheran Home. Homemade cookies were taken to be shared with residents of the Lutheran Home and it was an evening filled with songs and smiles. |
|
Throughout the year we have visited, prayed for, and sent cards of encouragement, congratulations, or sympathy to many of you. We count on you to keep us informed about those who may need a helping hand, some extra support, a meal during hard times, or a bit of encouragement. We are always available for support in any time and need and are one body working to the glory of God. |

AN ENDURING WORD FROM THE TEMPORARY PASTOR
The Presbyterian Church of Kane X Annual Report to the Congregation for 2011
Rev. Rebecca J. Taylor, Temporary Supply Pastor
Methodist pastor and professor W. Paul Jones chronicled his experiences while living at a Trappist monastery for several months in a book titled The Province Beyond the River. In the second month of his time working and praying alongside his new-found brothers, Jones describes a disastrous morning while helping at the eggery. While using a new piece of equipment designed to harvest more eggs more efficiently, Jones reports gaining confidence with the first three successful uses of the new lifter. With the fourth attempt, however, something went awry and thirty eggs suddenly smashed against the machinery, becoming “instant omelets.” Jones then reflects, “For the rest of the morning my ability was hampered – each lift was with anxiety, lacking both trust and confidence. Every insignificant noise sounded like the harbinger of the great egg demise. As I thought of this paralysis of effective action, I thought of how each of us needs the healing of memories.”
We need the healing of memories… so true. And Jones rightly identifies the crippling effect of still-wounded memories: effective action isn’t possible; fear paralyzes us. He continues, “It does not take many failures, rejections, losses, putdowns, until the memory is wounded. A black and blue memory becomes the filter for narrow and tentative imaginations on the present, blinding us to the future.”
We need the healing of memories… and not just to feel better about ourselves, not simply to get a better night’s sleep, but to live more fully in this moment and to embrace a more robust hope for the future, vibrant with visions of expansive plans and bold initiatives.
Organizations are organisms too… congregations need the healing of memories too. Jones sees it as the Spirit’s job to cure the hurt; I believe he’s onto something!
And I believe The Presbyterian Church of Kane is onto something as a community of faith!
With the strength and commitment of officers and staff, ministry moved forward in 2011 without pastoral leadership in place. Decisions were made, steps were taken, meetings were held, the worship of God continued faithfully, struggles were surmounted, grace was offered and received, and dreams were not dismissed but doggedly pursued.
Mid-year, I found myself delightfully entangled in some of the decisions that were being made and the steps that were being taken! Being in discernment concerning my ministry, I was “in the system,” receiving information about churches seeking pastoral leadership. After learning that we were “matched,” I checked you out and felt a stirring of the Spirit as I reviewed your information and viewed your web site. I prayed for understanding and then emailed a request to be prayerfully considered. Initially, there was no response, but then a telephone call started the conversation which continues today. By September I stood among you in the not-yet-navigated waters of bringing on board a Temporary Supply Pastor.
I am honored to serve our good and gracious God with and among you! I rejoice in the gifts which abound in this congregation and its staff! I praise God for the commitment I witness almost daily: commitment to ministry, to one another, to excellence, to growth, and to moving into a future with expansive plans and bold initiatives… and healed memories.
As we navigate these waters together, it is my hope and prayer that we will do so responsively to God’s calling, faithfully to the Spirit’s leading, and noticeably weirdly to Jesus’ credit! I believe Paul was onto something when he wrote to the believers in Rome: “Don’t be conformed to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your minds so that you can figure out what God’s will is—what is good and pleasing and mature.”

Women’s Circle and Women’s Association 2011
At our meetings we have devotions, a program and great desserts. We meet from April through December. We would love to have more of our congregation attend our meetings.
The Presbyterian Church of Kane has a small but active group in our Women’s Circle. Lois Lundeen continues to be our coordinator for our fundraiser of selling cleaning clothes. We have an annual food sale just prior to Christmas. This year we realized $334.50.
For those of you who are not aware if there is a 5th Sunday in the month the loose collection goes to the Women’s Circle.
We were hostess to a few funeral receptions and helped out with meals for the Kane Ministerium. With our funds we gave $359.50 to the Roof Fund.
The Women’s Association made mission pledges to Presbyterian Women in the Presbytery of Lake Erie, the Synod of the Trinity and to the World. We have had another successful year with our Thank Offering. One of our favorite meetings is bring our change that we have collected throughout the year and pouring it out on one of the tables in Fellowship Hall. Fellowship and laughter abound with the rolling of our coins. This year our Thank Offering was $159.30. The Women’s Association also donated $25.00 to the Roof Fund.
All the women of the church belong to Church Women United in Kane.
All women in the Presbyterian Church are members of Presbyterian Women even if they do not attend a Women’s Circle. They can take part in any of the Spring and Fall Gatherings and the National Gathering every three years without attending any meetings in their local church.
Looking forward to 2012—the Spring Gathering will be held at Oil City. The Coordinating Team for Lake Erie Presbytery hopes to see you there.
The 2012 National Gathering of Presbyterian Women will be held July 18-22 at Gaylord Palms in Orlando, Florida.

Mission Cell ~ “Above and Beyond”
The Mission Cell was brought into existence by a group who had a vision of the Presbyterian Church becoming more involved in mission work “above and beyond” the money allocated in the church budget each year for mission.
Through the efforts of the Mission Cell many Kane area children have enjoyed new warm winter clothing. Money has been given for several young people from our congregation who have gone to help states in disaster areas, The cell has helped families who have lost homes and possessions due to a fire and helped with travel expenses for a cancer patient. Several years aid in funding was given to children attending church camp. The last request for a motel bill for a transient who had asked the pastor for help.
No requests were made in 2011. The present bank balance is $104.93. If a need arises, the congregation will be asked to help use. All donations are gratefully accepted.
Respectfully submitted,
Lois Lundeen, Mission Cell Treasurer
Lay Pastor and Parish Steward
Again, I would like to thank our congregation for their support over 2011. Along with my work here at Kane I also lead worship in Port Allegany.
I also attended two CLP continuing education events that were provided by the Presbytery.

Glenda Buonanducci
