The PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH of KANE ...where you belong

A family in Christ

Our youth show off our Lenten tree, with new additions each week.

In the Chase Street hallway the KWT Group (Kid’s Worshipping Together) plus have placed The Lenten Tree.  Each week we are adding different items to the tree.

Week 1 – The color for Lent is purple.

Week 2 – The Money Bag – The moneybag and coins symbolizes the thirty pieces of silver Judas received for betraying Jesus.

Week 3 – The Chalice – During the meal in the Upper Room Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper by the sharing of bread and wine.  The bread represents Christ’s body (Bread of Life), and the wine, the blood of the new covenant(Cup of Salvation).

Week 4 – The Pretzel – The pretzel was created as a symbol of praying hands.  In the Garden of Gethsemane Christ prayed.

Week 5 – The Nail – The nail reminds us of the suffering Jesus experienced on the cross.

Week 6 – Palm Branches – In celebration of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem.

Easter- Resurrection Symbols – White symbolizes purity and joy and is why Easter lilies are always white.

The Presbyterian Church of Kane Spring  2011 C.E. Notes

Greetings from the Christian Education Committee!

Recently, as a part of the search for our next pastor, members of the congregation were asked to complete a check list of ministry skills you would like to see in that person. Very close to the top of all of the choices you made were “children’s ministry” and “youth ministry.” We will soon be entering the next seasons of the church year, Lent and Easter, and we want to be sure you are up to date with what is happening in Christian Education!

· Kids’ Choir and Kids’ Hand Chimes Practice will begin on Wednesday, March 9! Children from grade 1 and up are invited to come to church directly from the school each Wednesday, from March 9 through April 27. We will arrange for an adult to walk with them to church, where they will be met by Lynda. After practice, all of the children may participate in the KWT Plus activities led by Glenda and Cris. (Parents may pick up their children at 5:30.*) If your kids normally go to daycare after school, why not have them participate in this fun activity instead?

· Wednesday Evening Lenten Dinners begin on March 16 at 5:30. This is a wonderful opportunity for your family to gather in fellowship with the church family. Each week the dinner will have a different food theme. (*Why not meet your child after KWT and stay for the dinner?) Lenten worship in the sanctuary follows the meal.

· Sunday, May 1 is Children’s Church Sunday. Organized by “The Dream Team” and the Worship Committee, on May 1st the children of the church will be leading the service. Each class will have a special part. Planning and practice will take place during church school on Sundays. The Kids’ Choir will have their debut on May 1.

· Middle School and Senior High classes have now been joined together . Teachers are Larry Walker and Margaret Harris who will be planning lesson topics and other activities with the kids. Watch for news of a Spring Lock In!

· Just as a reminder, all church school classes for children and adults on Sunday morning begin at 9:45 AM . There will no longer be opening exercises for children, and everyone should go directly to their classrooms. Classes are finished at 10:40.

· Adult classes meet at 9:45 in the Gathering Place . The current study is “Jesus the Theologian: His Parables”, based on the video series by Dr. Kenneth Bailey. All adults are invited to join in this inspiring series.
